Rabbit Hole 2

9/2/19

Heading into the beginning of the of the thesis project which will make use of most-likely numerous sound files I discovered some pages that discuss naming conventions that go beyond what I had previously learned. This site mentions “the big five“ which contains DX, AMB, SFX, FLY, and MX being dialogue, ambience, sound effects, foley, and music respectively. There is a sixth that is “room tone”, however it seems to kind of tie in with ambience. While this may be very small, naming conventions will definitely help with organization.

One powerpoint I had found discusses specifically game audio with a lot of little bits of information for best quality and proper creation of sounds.

- DX, FOL, SFX should be mono files.

- MX and BGs should be stereo files

Ensure to use 48k sample rate, 24 bit depth for highest quality
