Concept: Multiplayer vR

In class we tried out a multiplayer escape room style game for VR. I have to say being physically involved was definitely beneficial to the immersion aspect of the game. My only two complaints were the darkness and some of the teleportation. Some areas were intentionally dark to figure out puzzles to turn the lights on, however there were some lit areas that seemed a bit too dark still. Some of the teleportation was immersion breaking due to blinking in too close to a wall having my head go through or get completely lost because I was too close. From the small part I played I wasn’t too mechanically impressed, however I had a lot of fun throwing and knocking around items along with the reactions from people in and out of the game.

Ultimately with that said, I think a game with physics based objects would be a really fun main feature! Since trying the escape room game I’ve been watching a bit of gameplay from Swords and Sorcery specifically with Star Wars mods and that has been very inspiring. I think creating a VR playground to throw things around with force-like powers would be the ideal multiplayer VR experience for me. While the experience itself may not have an intentional message, the performative aspect is where this could shine. Seeing whether people team up or go at it alone to cooperate to stack or move items, if people choose to be destructive and throw stuff at people, try to pull off cool tricks, or maybe even try to coordinate a game of catch.
