Mobile VR
The main subject of this concept is the usage of the Oculus Quest VR headset. This headset benefits from no wires or external sensors allowing it to be completely mobile, however it is not recommended to be used outside due to potential sun damage.
To push the idea of being able to use it almost anywhere, but not exclusively have to rely on using the headset for the experience, it could tie in with an AR companion. Borrowing the features of Pokemon Go or Geocaching can go ‘questing’ with a phone app to find and collect temple ‘rifts’ (Two Oculus puns for the price of one). These collectible rifts can then be explored at anytime and anywhere in VR. With this the user can decide to immediately put on their headset and explore their newly collected virtual space or continue exploring and view their collection later and play through their temples in succession.
To make both platforms relevant, as mentioned previously, the AR app will unlock new experiences for the VR headset and the VR experiences can unlock boosts for the app as well as other tools that are necessary to complete temple rifts of higher rarity.
Most VR games that I’ve seen are for the most part a one time experience and don’t have much incentive to return. With this I think it gives many reasons for those that enjoy the experience at its core to not only get exercise and explore the outdoors, but to also return to the same VR game often for bursts of play.
